Antique Victorian Louis XV Style Kingwood Card Table c.1890
A late 19th century kingwood and ormolu-mounted swivel-top card table in the French Louis XV taste, the serpentine fold-over top centered with floral marquetry on a parquetry ground within a cast bronze rim, rotating and opening to reveal a green baize playing surface framed by a mitred crossbanded border, set over an undulating serpentine frieze with matching floral inlay, all raised on slender cabriole legs with Rococo shoulder mounts and gilt sabots.
Typical of fine French-taste card tables of this period, the rear frieze is fully veneered and finished, rendering it equally suited as a compact entrance hall console or freestanding behind a low sofa, transitioning seamlessly into a substantial playing surface for entertaining when required.
Very good antique condition, showing some light surface wear, age-related marks and a gentle natural patina across the timber and brass mounts. Structurally sound, smooth in movement and ready to place.
English, circa 1890.
