Antique Georgian Mahogany Birdcage Tripod Table c.1790
A late Georgian mahogany tripod table with a solid single-piece circular top and original four-post birdcage mechanism allowing the tabletop to rotate and tilt. Below is a finely hand-turned baluster column raised on three cabriole legs, hand cut and neatly socketed into the column block. The top and birdcage can be lifted off the column when the original locating peg is withdrawn.
Presented in very good antique condition with the deep, warm and even patina typical of late 18th-century mahogany, with some surface marks and wear consistent with age and long use. There is light, long-set age line to the top as shown, entirely stable and commensurate with a single-board top of this period. Structurally sound, stable, clean and ready to place in the home.
English, circa 1790.
