Antique Edwardian Mahogany Whatnot c.1905
A compact four-tier whatnot in the Sheraton Revival style crafted in well-figured mahogany, the shelves each centred by a marquetry roundel and outlined with double stringing, all raised on original small brass castors.
Light, refined and suited to a range of uses, from display to housing books or curios. Sometimes called an étagère, this example is modest in size, mobile and equally practical as a tiered occasional table.
Very good antique condition with some surface wear consistent with age and use, including some minor age-related shrinkage to the lower shelves, entirely stable and typical of mahogany of this period. Structurally sound, clean and ready to place.
English, circa 1905.
