Antique Late Victorian Beech & Ash Pokerwork Stool c.1890
A late Victorian beech and ash stool, the top beautifully decorated by hand with pokerwork thistle motifs. The finely turned circular beech seat is set on well-turned ash legs stained dark in the period manner.
The foliate pokerwork is typical of late 19th century domestic craft, with dense cross-hatched shading and a stylised thistle design that gives the piece a gentle element of Scottish interest without implying regional manufacture.
Compact and characterful, it works well as a small fireside seat, a perch in a hallway or simply as an accent of late Victorian craftsmanship. The uneven wear to the stained ash legs and the warm tone across the seat give it an honest, well-used and characterful presence.
Presented in very good antique condition, structurally sound with age-appropriate surface wear and a pleasing patina across the seat and legs. Clean, stable and ready to place in the home.
English, circa 1890.
