Antique Mid 19th Century Elm Vernacular Bench
A characterful mid 19th century country-made bench constructed in elm, the long narrow single-plank seat set over splayed legs united by stretchers. Lots of natural shrinkage splits, visible wedged through-tenons and hand-worked shaping, all consistent with honest vernacular workmanship.
The narrow proportions and low seating position make it particularly useful today as a hearth bench or hall perch.
Very good antique condition with abundant surface wear, natural age splits and a well-developed patina consistent with age and use. Structurally sound, clean and ready to place in the home.
English, mid 19th century.
