Antique 18th Century Elm Country-Made Stool c.1760
A wonderfully primitive 18th century elm saddle stool, thickly hewn and richly patinated from generations of use. The curved seat, deeply worn and sculpted by time, is pegged to a robust base with four chamfered splayed legs joined by a stretcher frame.
The surface is a tactile delight: scars, splits and old repairs are all present, each telling part of its long story.
Brimming with rustic charm and honest character, this is a beautiful example of early vernacular furniture - ideal as an occasional stool, a fireside seat, or simply as a sculptural accent in a hallway or beside a hearth.
Presented in very good antique condition with considerable historic wear and evidence of old repairs and some slightly later elements — all part of its authentic, working character. Structurally sound, perfectly clean and ready to place in the home.
Welsh or English, circa 1760.
