Pair of Antique Late Victorian Walnut Armchairs c.1890
A quality pair of late Victorian walnut open armchairs, each of generous yet well-balanced proportions. The chairs are raised on turned legs with crisply carved block knees and bold lobed feet, united by finely carved front stretchers centred with a shell motif and flowing foliate scrollwork. The shaped open arms are enriched with foliate carving and finished with rosette terminals.
Finely upholstered in a traditional floral fabric, they are suitable as occasional armchairs in a drawing room, study or library. As a true matching pair, they work particularly well flanking a fireplace or anchoring a refined seating arrangement in a period interior.
Presented in very good antique condition. The frames are sound and stable, with crisp carving throughout and a sympathetic restored finish. There is a small, old loss to the rear of one back foot. The upholstery is clean, well fitted, and the chairs are ready to place in the home.
English, circa 1890.
