17th Century Antique Oak Coffer c.1650
A marvellous, early oak large antique coffer dating to around 1650. Features three decorative front panels, hinged plank lid and internal candle box. Incredibly attractive colour and patina to all surfaces.
The general condition is good, structurally all sound with lots of age related wear as to be expected. The front right edge of the lid is heavily worn, but this is all part of the beauty and charm of a piece of this age.
Various locks have been fitted over the years with an old plate lock currently in place (no key). The lid features an aged split between the two planks but it remains solid and robust. The chest leans back slightly, possibly having been positioned on an uneven floor at some point.
A beautifully imperfect piece with huge amounts of character, a real statement piece with a considerable history.
