Antique Edwardian Inlaid Mahogany Revolving Bookcase c.1910
An exceptional Edwardian revolving bookcase in well-figured, richly coloured mahogany with chequer-banded inlay, satinwood stringing and decorative inlaid panels. Designed with two tiers of open book storage divided into quarters, the whole rotates smoothly on a cast iron base raised on original large ceramic and brass castors.
Intended for practical use beside a chair or desk, keeping a small selection of books within easy reach from all sides. The decorative details are subtle but incredibly well-executed. The design reflects the Edwardian fascination with classical revival styles, echoing Regency elegance in a more compact, functional form.
Presented in excellent antique condition. The mechanism rotates well, the castors run smoothly, and the mahogany shows a warm aged patina with only very minor surface wear. Structurally sound, perfectly clean and ready to place in the home.
English, circa 1910.
