Large Extending Victorian Mahogany Oval Pedestal Table

A fabulous large 19th century mahogany extending pedestal table. Features an incredible large bulbous solid carved central pedestal, with four finely carved legs below a lovely oval tabletop with carved apron decoration.

The tabletop pulls apart and extends to a phenomenal length, with additional original screw in support legs on castors for use when the table is extended. There are four additional leaves which are not original, rather they are somewhat crude yet perfectly functional later additions.

The general condition is very good with only relatively light surface wear and an attractive patina to all surfaces. There are some aged marks to the tabletop as can be seen in the images but these are all part of the character of this lovely old piece. The additional screw in legs are perfectly functional but are a little loose, having been tightened with additional material to pack out the threads that have worn over the years. The extending mechanism is all in very good working order, just a little stiff from lack of use.

This table is a magnificent thing as simply a large pedestal oval table, but the later additional leaves and original turned supports provide lots of options to extend the table for practical use when needed.
