Antique Victorian Elm & Ash Captain’s Chair c.1890
A late 19th century captain’s desk chair, the shaped ash arms and turned beech spindles set over a beautifully figured, contoured single-piece elm seat, all raised on a beech frame of turned legs united by stretchers.
The chair has the upright stance and practical geometry associated with late Victorian clerical seating, making it a comfortable and functional working chair for a period library, study or home office. The original dark stained finish creates a striking aesthetic which contrasts nicely with the warm, mellowed wear along the ash arms.
Very good antique condition, with a pleasing patina and surface wear consistent with age. Structurally solid and ready to place in the home.
English, circa 1910.
