Antique Victorian Gothic Revival Oak Lectern c.1893
A late Victorian Gothic Revival oak lectern of strong architectural presence. The fixed sloping bookrest incorporates a lower book ledge, above an ornately carved frieze with a pointed Gothic arch, foliate uprights, turned pillars and a stretcher base with shaped feet.
A distinctly decorative piece, suitable for use as a lectern or reading stand, and equally effective as a display piece in a study, library or hall. In a commercial environment it would also make for a striking hostess stand.
Very good antique condition with light surface wear consistent with age and use. Some evidence of historic woodworm, long inactive. Structurally sound, clean and ready to place.
English, circa 1893.
