Antique Victorian Japanned Tripod Occasional Table c.1880
A Victorian japanned occasional table of compact scale, the circular fixed top decorated with gilt motifs on a black japanned ground, raised on a single barley twist turned column and terminating in a tripod base with carved scroll feet. The decorative japanning is carried consistently across the top, column and base, giving the piece a unified and deliberate decorative presence.
A light and mobile occasional table for use beside seating. Its modest footprint allows it to function comfortably beside an armchair, sofa end or as a small lamp or display table within a sitting room.
Presented in very good antique condition with surface wear and attractive craquelure to the japanned finish consistent with age and use. Structurally sound, stable and ready to place in the home.
English, circa 1880.
