Antique Qing Dynasty Elm Horseshoe-Back Armchairs c.1890
A finely proportioned pair of Chinese horseshoe-back armchairs in solid elm, dating to the late Qing Dynasty.
Each chair features a softly arched crest rail with gently flared ends, supported by a slender triple-panel backrest carved with traditional motifs.
The arms sweep outward in an elegant curve and terminate in rounded ends, supported by shaped vertical posts that join a square seat frame with shaped aprons and pegged joints. Below, the legs are united by plain stretchers, all retaining traces of a darkened lacquer finish contrasting with the rich warmth of the exposed elm grain.
With a quiet sculptural quality and an unmistakably handmade charm, these chairs would work beautifully as hall chairs, accent pieces in a study, or positioned either end of a console or occasional table.
Presented in very good antique condition, with a richly time-worn surface and characterful aged patina. Structurally all sound, clean, and ready to place in the home.
Price is for Pair.
