Pair of Antique Victorian Walnut Louis XV Style Open Armchairs c.1880
A well-matched pair of late 19th-century walnut open armchairs in the Louis XV style. Each chair is formed with a shaped upholstered back and seat, the back surmounted by a carved crest, with scrolling open arms and padded rests, all raised on carved cabriole legs.
Designed as fauteuil-type chairs for occasional seating, they work well as a pair in a drawing room, bedroom or positioned either side of a fireplace.
Presented in very good antique condition with some light surface wear and an attractive aged patina. The upholstery is clean and serviceable, showing some marks consistent with use. Both chairs show an old repair and minor losses to the carved crest rails, visible on close inspection but not affecting structure or use. Structurally sound, clean and ready to place.
