Low Back Windsor Chair Circa 1940
A pretty Windsor armchair of diminutive form, in the manner of Waring & Gillows with cane bergere seat and raised on nicely shaped turned legs united by a H stretcher.
The chair is stamped 1940 to the rear of the seat panel in a style which Waring & Gillows did employ during this period as seen on other examples, and the chair has all the fine quality characteristics of the maker, however this cannot be absolutely confirmed.
Excellent condition, the cane seat having no damage, the chair is structurally all in good order with just some superb aged colour and patina.
English, 1940.
